A friend of mine recently purchased a used vehicle (1991 Geo) from a local merchant (Blue Mountain Nissan). She is paying good money for this car, and the dealership even sold her an extended warranty. Of course, when you purchase a vehicle from a dealer, you expect it will run properly. And this one did until just a few weeks ago. When we brought the car in to be serviced, it turned out to be a burned rotor, distributor and plugs, something which, we feel, should have been checked before the car was sold. The dealership said that, as long as the car was running, they didn't check if it needed to be tuned up unless the customer complained.
Caveat Emptor, right? I agree, we blew it. But, so no one else gets screwed, before you purchase a vehicle from a "reputable" dealer, insist it be properly tuned up. If they are really gung-ho about selling you a car, they'll do it without blinking. If not, take your business elsewhere.
OK, I'll get off my soapbox now.
